The Emotional Transaction
When did vanity marketing outweigh genuine human-to-human connection?
Does being “professional” equate to shrinking your unique personality?
Which is more valuable: a streamlined workflow or a personalised approach?
When did the focus on $$$ client bookings surpass emotional value?
I pinky promise these probing statements aren’t blanket generalisations or designed to trigger an existential crisis for your wedding photography business.
They’re questions intentionally crafted to spark a meaningful reflection on your true biz identity & client experience.💛
Luxury wedding clients
means easy cash, right?
You’ve poured every drop of your heart and energy into building a wedding photography business to serve your creative and financial goals.
The dream is to attract luxury, high-paying clients who’ll book your top packages, allowing you to earn more while shooting less. Not to mention a slayin’ portfolio.
But with new wedding photographers (with the same starry-eyed goals) popping up daily, how can you set yourself apart as the crème de la crème?
Hear me out…
Viral business strategies, securing features in coveted publications, a carefully curated portfolio, and buzzwords like “luxury”, “editorial”, or “high-end” will only go so far.
There’s ONE key ingredient you’re missing: the emotional transaction.
Emotional Transactions
turn one-time invoices into lifetime relationships.
At the heart of every luxury wedding booking is an emotional decision.
Whether it’s a current client or a future couple, they make emotionally driven choices throughout their journey.
It’s up to YOU to make them feel like they can trust you to achieve their surface-level wants AND deeper, underlying desires.
For example, your existing & future clients might make the emotional decision to…
-
👩🏻💻 Fill out your enquiry form
It takes time & mental effort to fill out your online enquiry form.
-
🤝 Schedule a time to catch up
Whether over Zoom, a phone call or in person, you’re asking them to make time.
-
🧐 Explore & consider your offers
Check out your pricing guide & consider your various packages, while comparing you to others.
-
💎 Customise their package
Decide if they want to purchase optional add-ons like prints, albums, extra hours, etc.
-
🤩 Refer you in the future
Go out of their way to refer you to their friends, family, colleagues…anyone & everyone who’s planning a wedding.
-
📸 Book you for future milestones
Whether it’s a maternity, newborn, or family shoot, your relationship doesn’t have to end after their wedding day.
Your current and future clients are more than a paycheck;
they’re individuals with dreams and struggles, aspirations and challenges.
Trust me, your dream clients crave a real emotional connection with you as a human, beyond your professional label.
Picture this: You’re a total stranger asking to capture and join in on one of their most intimate celebrations.
More than a wedding photographer or another vendor, how can you help them feel less “Should we trust this rando from the Internet?🤔” and more “Did we just become best friends?👯♀️”
Tapping into their emotions may be intangible, but its tangible impacts spread wider and further than you can imagine.
Are you investing the same time and energy into earning your client’s trust and raving loyalty as you do in curating your Insta feed and polishing their galleries?
Let’s go back to the basics.

Hey there, ya amazing
Wedding Photographer 👋
If we’ve never met before (better late than never), I’m Mel Harcourt, a copywriter for photographers, creatives, and lifestyle brands.
I've spent the last decade disarming clients with my annoyingly insatiable curiosity—and reading between the lines—to craft copy that oozes their personalities.
Fun Fact 👀: Many of my clients have commented how crazy/ creepy it is that I can write pages of words that sound exactly like them…without ever meeting them.
Many of them also receive my naggy to-do lists and unsolicited advice to achieve their overall biz goals.
To say I have an obsession with over-analysing human behaviour and understanding emotional triggers is a gross understatement.
We're talking since childhood, as early as I can remember.
Maybe it's because I'm a natural introvert who thrives on quietly observing and listening rather than talking.
At a party, you’ll catch me internally connecting the dots to make sense of external chaos while patting the closest dog or stealing chips from the pantry.
Quit rambling, Mel, give me the damn low-down?!
Yes, I might not be a professional wedding photographer, but since I spend almost 24/7/365 whippin’ words for (and living vicariously through) photographers, I make it MY personal mission to understand how you can use emotional triggers to attract, convert, and BOOK your dream clients.
To celebrate the beginning of our e-friendship, I’d love for you to jump onto my FREE 5-week email challenge so we can get to know each other better.🥰

Learnings and experiences that have helped me nurture rewarding relationships and a business that consistently thrives because of it.
Plus, I was once a wedding photography client. 😉 -
